Welcome to the website of Dr. Gerald “Trey” Alexander III, M.D. Specializing in total joint replacement surgery and revision procedures as well as non-surgical therapies, Dr. Alexander provides patient-centric care for a variety of hip and knee conditions, helping patients of all ages regain their active lifestyles.

A fifth-generation Tampa native and a graduate of the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Dr. Alexander is proud to provide caring, compassionate orthopedic care to residents of his home community. Dr. Alexander specializes in minimally invasive, robotic, and outpatient joint replacements, as well as complex hip and knee reconstruction, custom implants, and the revision and treatment of painful or failed arthroplasties. Dr. Alexander also helps his patients explore non-surgical therapies such as cortisone injections, physical therapy, oral medications, and activity modifications, to find individualized treatment regimens to effectively manage their pain.

Dr. Alexander’s approach to orthopedic surgery emphasizes muscle-sparing techniques, helping patients get back to their busy lives as quickly as possible. Having completed a hip and knee replacement fellowship at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Alexander has extensive expertise with complex surgical techniques, as well as preoperative planning and postoperative follow-up. Dr. Alexander is truly committed to supporting his patients throughout every step of the treatment and recovery process, providing them with the one-on-one care that they deserve.

Dr. Alexander’s family-friendly practice at Florida Medical Orthopedics, Sports Medicine & Spine welcomes patients with a wide range of diagnoses. Degenerative arthritis of the hip and knee, and hip and knee fractures are among his most frequently treated conditions.

To produce the best possible results, Dr. Alexander tailors his approach to surgery for each individual patient. For some, a partial joint replacement surgery can be highly effective; for others, a total joint replacement is the more appropriate option. To ensure proper ligament balancing, correct alignment of the implant, and the most significant possible improvement in mobility and range of motion, Dr. Alexander uses a variety of surgical techniques, including direct and superior modified versions of the anterior approach.

As a member of the American Association of Hip & Knee Surgery, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Florida Orthopedic Society, Dr. Alexander is highly respected throughout the industry. He has also been nominated for several top awards by his peers.
