About Jonathan Mitchell, Ph.D.

Dr. Jonathan Mitchell is a clinical psychologist. His clinical experience encompasses cognitive behavioral therapy, biopsychology, psychophysiology, and chronic illness self-management. Dr. Mitchell employs a stepped-care approach, combining clinical and counseling treatments to effectively address patient needs.

Dr. Mitchell earned a bachelor’s degree in music education and psychology from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. He then obtained dual master’s degrees in clinical psychology from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando. He completed a residency in clinical psychology at Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island, specializing in health psychology and behavioral medicine. He also holds a PhD in clinical psychology from UCF and completed a fellowship in integrated primary care at the UCF Health Outpatient Clinic.

Dr. Mitchell served as the assistant director of clinical services at the wellness center at the University of South Florida (USF) campus in St. Petersburg, overseeing treatment and other medical and wellness services. His prior roles included staff psychologist and training coordinator at the USF counseling center in Tampa. During his postdoctoral fellowship at UCF, he mentored clinical psychology doctoral students and undergraduates as a visiting assistant professor, and he has held guest lecturer and staff instructor positions at USF and Brown University.

Dr. Mitchell is licensed as a psychologist by the Florida Department of Health and is a member of several professional organizations, including the Collaborative Family Healthcare Association, Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers, Society for Behavioral Medicine, Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and the American Psychological Association. He contributed a book chapter to the American Psychological Association Press’ “Training and Supervision in Specialized Cognitive-Behavior Therapy: Methods, Settings & Populations” and has been published in several peer-reviewed journals.
