Conscious Sedation
Combination of medications used to help reduce anxiety, discomfort and pain during a medical procedure. Patients may fall asleep or remain awake in a twilight state. Used for minor surgeries when general anesthesia is not necessary.
General Anesthesia
Combination of medicine that puts the patient in a sleep-like, unconscious state so they do not feel pain during a surgical procedure.
Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC)
Type of mild sedation administered through an IV to keep patients calm during a procedure. Patient is typically awake and able to follow instructions when needed.
Regional Anesthesia
Technique used to numb a specific part of the body to allow a surgical procedure to be performed with minimal pain and recovery time. Types of regional anesthesia include spinal anesthesia, epidural anesthesia and nerve blocks.
