• Behavioral techniques, such as bladder training (delaying urination for a few minutes every time there is an urge to use the restroom) and double voiding (urinating twice in short succession to ensure the bladder is fully empty)
• Lifestyle changes, such as fluid and diet management
• Pelvic floor physical therapy, including Kegel exercises to strengthen the muscles that control urination
• Medications to relax the bladder muscles, make it easier to empty the bladder, or calm an overactive bladder (estrogen supplements may also be recommended for women)
• Overactive bladder surgery, such as bladder augmentation (a procedure in which part of the bowel is used to increase bladder capacity)
• InterStim, a small medical device that is implanted under the skin, where it sends small electrical pulses to the nerves that control bladder function
